Gemini’s main advance is its ability to maintain natural conversational flow. You no longer need to repeat a wake phrase before every command. For example, you can say ‘Turn off the lights in the living room and play something chill’, and Gemini will handle both actions and remember context between follow-up commands.

Smarter Vision and Search on Cameras

Cameras and doorbells get ‘Gemini-powered vision’, which delivers scene summaries and natural-language video search. That means you can ask about recent events or search footage with plain speech rather than navigating menus or timestamps.

Google Home Premium and Device Support

Google is introducing a paid tier, Google Home Premium, that enables Gemini Live — continuous, wake-word-free conversations — plus enhanced camera features and more advanced automation tools. Some legacy devices from nearly a decade ago will receive core Gemini features, but the full premium experience is limited to newer hardware. Google plans a Gemini-ready Home speaker at around $99 designed to take full advantage of the new system.

Platform Strategy and Third-Party Devices

Google is quietly opening Gemini to other manufacturers by providing SDKs so third-party companies can build Gemini-native cameras and sensors. If partners adopt the platform, expect a wave of devices designed to ‘speak’ Gemini natively.

Privacy Questions and On-Device Processing

The deeper integration of AI into home devices raises privacy concerns. The more Gemini understands your routines, the more personal data it must process.
