Theom Raises $20M Series A to Transform AI-Era Data Governance
Theom secured $20 million in Series A funding to enhance its AI-native data governance platform, enabling enterprises to secure sensitive data across cloud and AI environments.
Accelerating Innovation in Data Security
Theom, a trailblazer in modern data governance, has secured $20 million in Series A funding to advance its mission of protecting sensitive enterprise data across cloud, SaaS, and generative AI platforms. This funding round was led by Wing VC, with key contributions from Databricks Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and SentinelOne’s S Ventures.
Embedding Security Within Data Platforms
Unlike traditional tools that rely on static environments, Theom introduces an AI-native Data Operations Center (DOC) that integrates governance and security directly into enterprise data platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, and Azure. This approach enables continuous monitoring of data access patterns using machine learning and behavioral analytics to preempt threats.
Addressing Critical Use Cases
Theom’s platform focuses on several vital areas:
- AI-aware data access governance to prevent misuse by AI models or unauthorized users.
- Real-time detection of insider threats such as impersonation and excessive permissions.
- Automated compliance management for regulations including HIPAA, GDPR, NIST, and DORA.
- Secure collaboration via clean rooms and data exchange marketplaces.
Operating in-place without moving data reduces latency and egress costs, while integrations with Okta, Splunk, Microsoft 365, and Slack ensure comprehensive security coverage.
Industry Recognition and Customer Adoption
Trusted by customers like FiServ, Grammarly, JetBlue, and TradeWeb, Theom has garnered praise from investors and industry leaders. Wing VC’s Co-Founder Gaurav Garg highlights Theom’s fine-grained, usage-based access controls as essential for AI readiness. Similarly, Databricks Ventures and Snowflake Ventures emphasize Theom’s real-time governance capabilities and scalability in regulated industries.
A Data-Centric Approach for the AI Future
With enterprise data increasingly cloud-based and AI transforming data usage, Theom’s founders, veterans in cloud security and data engineering, developed a platform leveraging generative adversarial networks (GANs), behavioral ML, and MITRE ATT&CK threat mapping. This enables detection and prevention of live data breaches without data leaving the customer’s cloud.
Growth and Future Plans
Theom plans to expand its engineering team, deepen partner integrations, and scale its AI-native data governance solutions globally. CEO Navindra Yadav states that this funding accelerates their mission to help enterprises innovate securely with AI.
