Google has introduced AI Mode in its Search platform, combining generative AI with real-time web data to transform how users find information online. Unlike traditional search that returns a list of links, AI Mode comprehends detailed and complex queries and provides personalized, comprehensive answers.

Smarter Shopping

Users can now ask intricate questions like “mid-century modern dressers near me” and receive product cards displaying local store availability, current prices, and relevant details, making shopping decisions faster and easier.

Streamlined Travel Planning

AI Mode introduces visual cards for comparing travel destinations, restaurants, and hotels, including reviews, operating hours, and other essential information that simplifies trip planning.

Conversation Memory and Convenience

A new sidebar keeps track of users’ previous searches, allowing seamless continuation of research or follow-up questions. Soufi Esmaeilzadeh, Director of Search Product Management, emphasized making it easier for users to pick up where they left off.

Availability and Future Outlook

Starting immediately, AI Mode is accessible to all Google Labs users in the U.S. without any waitlist. A select group of users will also see an AI Mode tab within regular Search without needing to sign up. This feature positions Google as a strong competitor to AI-powered search tools like Perplexity and ChatGPT by merging conversational AI with up-to-date web information.
